Wipe

A wipe is a type of video transition where one shot is progressively replaced by another shot in a geometric pattern. A video transition in which the new video physically moves into the frame while displacing the old video.

Some specific styles of wipes:

•    Clock wipe
•    Iris slow
•    Diagonal
•    Invisible wipe
•    Diamond
•    Heart wipe
•    Matrix wipe
•    Star wipe

Wipes are dynamic and a good way to show changing location. The best example of the wipe is Iris wipe, mostly find in silent films.

Some examples of the wipe can be seen in the Star Wars, The Red Green Show, Mary Jane's Mishap, Guiding Light, Looney Tunes, Merrie Melodies, The Simpsons, Regular Show, Das Boot,  Laurel and Hardy and The Price is Right .
